Downtown Allentown Market Adds Southern Charm to an Expanding Palette

There are 300 fried chicken drumsticks en route to downtown Allentown, and one of them might have your name on it.

That is, if you get to Zachary’s BBQ & Soul fast enough. The southeastern Pennsylvania-based restaurant opens in Allentown’s downtown market on Wednesday, January 19. is already an integral part of Allentown’s culinary culture.

Taylor, a New Jersey-born Army veteran, originally opened Zachary’s as a restaurant business in the Philadelphia area, but has expanded to include this Allentown location and one at Harrisburg Midtown Arts. Center, which opened in 2021.

The “pit-to-plate” menu is full of comfort food, including fried chicken, ribs, pulled pork and more, along with sides like mac and cheese and collard greens. The restaurant is using its fried chicken as a gateway to the rest of its menu, as it will be giving away 300 drumsticks for free starting at noon on opening day.

Food is the focus, of course, but it will also be Taylor’s first Zachary location to be licensed, and it will feature an expansive bar with local craft beers, wine and cocktails.
