Gourmet Market at All Points East Festival in East London
Festival season is upon us, and to help you prepare for the fun summer days ahead, we’re taking a look at what wellness foods are on offer at All Points East this year.
A big part of planning a festival is figuring out what you’re going to eat while you’re there.
Luckily All Points East, returning to East London’s Victoria Park this August bank holiday, has you covered. Since its debut in 2018, the 10-day event has grown into a celebration of all things local, hosting a string of food and drink vendors with London roots.
“There will be something for everyone,” reveals Darcey Jackson, an All Points East organizer. “We are incredibly committed to the local community and love the chance to showcase some of East London’s best produce.”
Here are some must-try dishes you can sample at the All Points East Festival this year:
1. Poptata Loaded Fries
Serving up an all-time favorite, but with a few unexpected additions, Poptata’s street fries are a staple of the APE food scene. They are made from high quality fresh cut British potatoes and double fried for an extra crispy outside and chewy centre. Why not top your fries with curry mayonnaise or caramelized onions for extra indulgence?
“Our fries are ideal when you need a pick-me-up and are the perfect festival food to enjoy on the go,” shares co-founder Marco Maiocchi.
2. BBQ Smoked Meats by From the Ashes BBQ
Specializing in food that delivers flavor, fire and drama, From the Ashes BBQ is a meat lover’s dream, with dishes ranging from lightly smoked pork shoulder to sumptuous prime ribs.
Working with some of the best farmers in the UK, they only supply the highest quality meat products from ethical sources.
Discover culinary delights such as their nduja donut ‘Del Piero’. This is a handmade fritter made with smoked pork shoulder, spicy nduja from Duchy charcuterie and spicy chilli jam. Finish your meal with a selection of savory sides, including Beef Fat Crispy Potatoes and BBQ Beans, finished in the smoker with charred ends, a drizzle of bourbon and barbecue sauce.
3. Finest Fayre Traditional English Scotch Eggs
Run by East Londoner Nikki O’Kane, Finest Fayre Catering celebrates some of Britain’s best classics, including sausage rolls, pork pies and flavored scotch eggs. They also offer vegan and vegetarian alternatives and family pies that you and your loved ones can enjoy.
“My family are from Bethnal Green. Living just two minutes from Victoria Park, we shop there every Sunday, so it made perfect sense for us to get involved with the All Points East festival,” says Nikki.
“My father was the managing director of Bordeaux Markets, so attending food fairs has always been a big part of my life, and something I’m passionate about.”
Using only the best produce and innovation, their menu includes hot and cold entrees and unique snacks such as breakfast or black pudding flavored scotch eggs.
“It’s a great way for festival-goers to enjoy a nutritious meal that will keep them going all day long,” adds Nikki. “We are delighted to be part of the festival this year. I love the sense of community and warmth it promotes and the chance it gives local businesses to get exposure.
4. Only Jerkin’ Caribbean Fried Chicken
Marinated for 48 hours, triple-dipped in signature cream soda and ginger beer batter, and expertly seasoned, Only Jerkin’s Caribbean Fried Chicken is packed with lip-smacking flavor. Savor succulent, crispy chicken with thicker skin over fries, creamy coleslaw and a rich jerk sauce. Their cooking is based on traditional family recipes and inspired by childhood experiences in the kitchen.
5. Island Poké Exotic Poké Bowls
Tangy and refreshing, a Poké Bowl from the Island Poké Stand is the perfect way to set you up for a fun festival day. With a variety of protein, plant and vegan options available, there’s something for every dietary need.
Inspired by summers in California and Hawaii, founder James Porter designed the bowls to add a taste of heaven and a splash of color to the London lunch scene. They use fresh, sustainable and quality ingredients to deliver mouth-watering dishes that will delight your taste buds.
6. Gourmet Mac and Cheese from The Mac Factory
The ultimate comfort food, The Mac Factory offers the best of cheesy goodness, packing their pasta dishes full of flavor and premium ingredients.
Try their legendary mac and cheese, made with an authentic blend of mature cheddar and mozzarella. If you’re someone who takes macaroni and cheese seriously, this is the place to go!
7. Yorkshire Burrito Yorkshire Pudding Wraps
A hearty British classic served in a whole new way! Enjoy mild, braised Herefordshire beef or honey-lemon roast chicken wrapped in a burrito. Both are also filled with a giant Yorkshire pudding, roast potatoes, sage and onion stuffing, spinach and their signature sauce.
Yorkshire Burrito started at Rupert St Market in Soho seven years ago. Their mission was to represent British cuisine on the London street food scene and serve traditional Sunday lunches in a way that anyone could enjoy anywhere.
8. Neapolitan-Inspired Pizza from Bad Boy Pizza Society
No day is complete without a delicious slice of ‘za. Starting life as an all-inclusive pizza company at the University of Southampton, the founders set out to perfect their dough recipe and hone their pizza-making skills.
Since then they have grown increasingly powerful, opening shacks at Vinegar Yard, Seven Dials Market and Next Door Records in Shepherd’s Bush. Bad Boy Pizza Society will be using its specialty Ooni ovens to cook up a storm at the All Points East Festival, delivering delicious 12-inch New York and Neapolitan-inspired wood-fired pizzas.
9. Truffle Burger’s Deluxe Burgers
Born and built in London, the Truffle Burger story began in 2018 with the intention of creating a destination meal using one of the world’s most expensive natural ingredients, served in an accessible and affordable way.
Each dish uses truffles in one form or another to create decadent burgers that deliver bite-sized flavor, texture, and charm.
Try their Honey Truffle Chicken Burger made with twice coated buttermilk chicken leg or savor their original Truffle Burger made with a patty of smoked beef and raclette cheese.
