Jumble sale, blessing of the boards and other Montauk events

Nothing says “summer is here” like an action-packed Memorial Day weekend in Montauk.

The Montauk Community Church Ladies’ Guild will host the first of the church’s summer fairs Saturday from 9 a.m. to noon. Sales, which include jewelry, clothing, household items, toys and books, linens, and more, will continue weekly through Labor Day.

The Montauk Lighthouse Museum and Gift Shop will have extended hours for the holiday weekend, remaining open 10:30 a.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday and Sunday and until 5:30 p.m. Monday. Admission is $13 for adults, $8 for seniors, and $5 for children 12 and under. Children under 41 inches will be admitted free, but will not be permitted to climb or be carried up the tower. No backpacks or large bags will be permitted on Lighthouse property.

Hither Hills State Park is hosting a few events this holiday weekend. On Saturday at 1 p.m., there will be a print of gyotaku fish for the children. During a garbage and beach cleaning on Sunday at 1 p.m., all participants will receive a reusable bag. On Monday, the park will offer a program in its pollinator garden on how to protect our pollinators, along with a taste of honey. The meeting point is at the visitor center near the campground. Surfers and paddlers looking for a little extra protection in the water this summer may want to head to the Sainte-Thérèse Catholic Church in Lisieux for the 12th annual Blessing of the Boards, which will take place in front of the church after the 5:00 p.m. mass on Saturday. and Sunday masses from 8:30 a.m. and 10:30 a.m.
