AAUW Fundraising for Community Book Sale

The American Association of University Women of Murrysville is collecting donations of gently used books beginning April 1 for the group’s used book sale in partnership with the Murrysville Community Library.

The sale will take place May 5-7 at the library, 4130 Sardis Road in Murrysville.

The library collects books, CDs, DVDs and puzzles. The following books will not be accepted: encyclopedias, manuals and manuals, religious, medical, outdated, damaged, moldy or moldy books.

Heritage Trail Bridge closed for two weeks

The bridge on the east side of Trafford Road, along the Westmoreland Heritage Trail, will close for two weeks from March 21.

The bridge deck is being replaced and will be closed, with no alternative route available. Walkers and cyclists are asked to avoid the area or turn around when they reach this portion of the trail.

Symphony East hosts PSO harpist on March 21

Symphony East will host Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra principal harpist Gretchen Van Hoesen for a musical program on March 21.

A faculty member at Carnegie Mellon and Duquesne Universities, Hoesen has been the principal harpist of the PSO since 1977.

The program will take place at 1 p.m. at the Lamplighter Restaurant, 6566 William Penn Highway in Salem. No reservation is required, however a $10 donation is requested from adults who attend.

Spaghetti Supper Benefits St. John’s and St. Mary’s Parishes

A spaghetti dinner on March 20 from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m. will benefit St. John’s and St. Mary’s parishes in Delmont.

Dinner includes spaghetti, meatballs, salad, bread, dessert and drinks. The annual dinner is back after a hiatus during the covid-19 pandemic.

There will also be a basket raffle, a cash raffle and a 50/50 draw.

The dinner will be held at St. John’s, 497 Athena Drive in Delmont.

The recreation department will organize a “hot chocolate hike” on March 26

The Murrysville Recreation Department will host another “Hot Chocolate Ride” at 10 a.m. on March 26 on the trails in the Scouting Knob area of ​​Murrysville Community Park.

The 2-3 mile hike will meet at the dog park area off of Wiestertown Road just past the park entrance. It is a wooded hike with inclines and may require stepping over fallen trees. Hikers should dress for the weather with appropriate footwear.

The garden club offers scholarships

The Murrysville Garden Club will provide its annual scholarship to qualified Franklin Regional School District students or parents of a club member.

Applicants must be a high school student or be enrolled in a college or technical school intending (or already) to major in horticulture, landscape architecture, conservation, forestry, botany, agriculture, plant pathology, environmental science or a related field in a two- or four-year programme.

Eligibility is based on grade level, financial need and general ability. Get an application at the Franklin Regional Senior High School counseling office or by calling 724-327-7235 or 412-953-0911.

Spring co-ed soccer camp in Salem

The Salem Township Recreation Board will be sponsoring a football skills and sportsmanship camp on Saturdays beginning April 2 at Seanor Farm Park, Route 22 and Hornick Drive in Salem.

The camp runs from April 2 to May 21 for children ages 4 to 10. Sessions will take place from 10:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. The cost is $60 for residents and $70 for non-residents. The price includes a t-shirt.

Participants must wear sports shoes, shin guards (mandatory) and bring a bottle of water. The camp will be led by Greensburg Salem boys head coach Dan Anderson.

A registration letter with the child’s name, age, date of birth, address, parents’ names, contact information and t-shirt size, along with a check payable to of Salem Township Recreation Board, may be mailed to Tim D’Aurora, Treasurer, 2032 Route 819, Greensburg, PA, 15601. Registration is due by March 26.

Delmont VFD will host a live concert from Saddle Up

Country band Saddle Up will play in the Delmont Volunteer Fire Department room at 9 p.m. on March 19.

Coverage is $5. The kitchen will be open and no outside alcohol is allowed. The fire station is at 2360 Route 66 in Delmont.
