Shops in Antelope Walk, Dorchester, gear up for Independents Day
A host of small shops in Dorchester are gearing up for an event that showcases the importance of independent business.
This Saturday (July 2), Antelope Walk celebrates Independents Day as part of the national campaign to showcase and support independent retail businesses across the country.
Independents make up around 65% (around 290,000) retail outlets in the UK and are generally at the heart of local communities across the country.
Karen Hardwick, owner of Cranbornes of Dorchester in Antelope Walk, said: “What makes small businesses special is the vital role they play in local economies.
“For every pound spent on a small business, 63p stays in the local economy.
“We have three brick and mortar sites that employ nine people – that’s nine households supported by our small business.
“During the lockdowns everyone was so isolated, going to the stores, walking around and chatting with small business owners is an experience to cherish and support.
“We are so lucky to be surrounded by lovely small businesses here at Antelope Walk and we celebrate them all by celebrating Independents Day.”
The stats within Antelope Walk are even higher than that, with over 90% of businesses here made up of freelancers.
The Walk has become a hub for small businesses and independent retailers as the high street begins a new post-Covid-19 era.
Antelope Walk is home to small businesses such as Cranbornes (unit 5), Mirari Lingerie (unit 6), Robin James (unit 8), Deli, Coming Soon (unit 9), Flowerful (unit 10), CW Hats & Accessories (unit 12), Isha Body Jewelery (unit 13), SA Treasure Jewelery (unit 14), Dorchester Podiatry & Wellbeing (unit 15), Kooky Bloom (unit 16), Joey’s Baby Food (unit 17) and NaturalLife (unit 18).
Antelope Walk has undergone a huge transformation with repairs and maintenance in historic Dorchester. The exterior of each individual unit has been redecorated with beautiful understated Farrow & Ball tones. The neighborhood is now welcoming new tenants with only a few units for rent.
The Walk offers a quaint and charming shopping venue with independent boutiques and dining offerings.
